As 2018 comes to a close, we are reflecting on our year here at Form, and there are a few stand-out moments. One of those is our day spent volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, at their current build site.

At the beginning of 2018, we committed to making community involvement a priority. Beyond simply donating to not-for-profit organizations, we wanted to get involved and donate our time to a deserving cause.

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. They are passionate about their duty to provide a “hand-up, not a hand-out”. Homes are sold to families with no down-payment and are financed through affordable, no-interest mortgages. Families invest 500 hours of sweat equity into building their own houses and those of other families.

We had the opportunity to participate in their current build at 8180 Ash Street in Richmond. The project will provide homes for twelve different families. Thanks to the guidance of our on-site manager, our team was able to assist by constructing playhouses, painting trim on the homes, and helping to build forms. We were honoured to serve alongside the Habitat team and other volunteers to be a small contributor to their movement in Greater Vancouver.

A sincere ‘thank you’ to the Habitat for Humanity team for the work you’re doing in our city and beyond.
