River District is one of Vancouver’s last master planned waterfront communities encompassing 130 acres known as the East Fraser Lands in South Vancouver. Only 20 minutes from YVR and Metrotown and 25 minutes from downtown Vancouver, the master planned community being developed by Wesgroup includes 1.5 km of riverfront access and 25 acres of greenspace.
Upon completion, River District will accommodate over 10,000 homes and 18,000 residents and will offer parks, playgrounds, a community centre, daycares, schools, walking/biking paths, dog parks, and over 250,000 SF of retail.
The Town Centre will be located at the heart of River District, which is anchored by Save On Foods (Opening Spring 2019) and includes Everything Wine’s flagship 17,000 SF wine paradise, Starbucks, Scotiabank, and TD Bank which are all open and operating. Restaurants including Sushi Mura, Booster Juice, and Belgard Kitchen’s exciting new concept by Wayne Holm will be opening Spring 2019 along with the aforementioned Save On Foods and a multidisciplinary health clinic. The final phase of the Town Centre will be completed at the end of 2019 with more major anchors still to be announced and exciting opportunities for retailers including restaurants, cafes, boutiques, fitness users and professional services.
The development will service the existing trade area along with the future growth of River District’s 7.2 million square feet of living space.
River District’s amenities have cemented the project as a waterfront destination that will feature a retail high-street leading to a waterfront restaurant opportunity in a future phase. The project is already home to thousands of new residents along with servicing an underserved retail trade area, which has been anchored by community activities including a farmers market, beach volleyball courts and waterfront paths for bikers and walkers.
This project is worth keeping a close eye on over the coming months as the final phase of Town Centre nears completion and additional exciting retailers get announced.
